Why another site for Llangennech & Bryn?

While there are several sites for the area, they mainly focus on what happens within them - you have one for the Cricket Club, one for the Football, one for the Community Centre and all the schools have seperate sites.  What we want to do is have a Web site that everybody in Llangennech & Bryn can start off with which has links to the other sites.  You might come here and see that Llangennech AFC played yesterday, so our site tells you the result and you then follow the link to their Web site to read the full match report.  There are also other organisations, like Cymdeithas Llan A'r Bryn, Transition Towns and Merched y Wawr who don't currently have a net presence.  We want to offer them a free service where they can send us their news, upcoming events and discussion boards if they so wish.

Our aim is not to take traffic away from the other sites, but push more traffic their way.

How often will the site be updated?

It will be updated as often as we receive new material, so hopefully every day.

What's the Login for?  Do I really need to register?

You don't have to register, but you will gain some benefits if you do.  If you take a look at the News section you can post comments but every time you have to type in a code, which can be irritating and also hard to read.  But once you've registered and confirmed your email address you can post comments with ease.  It's also required if you want to post your own events etc.

How easy is it to contribute to the site?

As long as you are familiar with using a word processor you should be comfortable posting new articles.  Once you've registered you need to let us know that you want to contribute, we can then upgrade your account and you will see some new options on the left hand side.  You just click on 'Submit news' or 'Submit event' and you get something that looks like a word processor.  You type it all in and save it.  We then review it and approve the article.  You can also set a time and date for when the article will appear, so you could tell it to run from the 21st to the 25th and the system will automatically post it and remove it for you.

Alternatively you can just email us with whatever it is you want to post and we'll do it for you.

Why isn't the site available in Welsh?

This is a private venture funded by BCS Media and Blue Moon Design.  We do hope to recoup our costs from businesses advertising on here, hopefully in the future we will expand the use of Welsh on here.  We do however encourage people to send us material in Welsh and we will post them.  We are however unable to offer a translation service due to the amount of time involved.

Do we really have to put up with all these advertisements?

Unfortunately there is a cost with maintaining this site.  A lot of effort has been put into developing the site, maintaining it and start up costs.  We have tried to keep the advertising down, compared to other sites I have seen when I was researching this project the advertising complements the Web site and doesn't take it over.  We would encourage our visitors to click on the adds if they are interested in their services, all of them are from the local area.

I've found something unsuitable on here.  Can you remove it?

While we do monitor the site, because people can post on here we can't completely stop people from posting unsuitable comments etc.  Once we find something unsuitable it will be removed immediately, if you do find something please let us know and we will take action.

What are your plans for the future?

We hope to add more features to the site, beginning with improving the Discussion board.  We would also like to expand on the clubs and organisations listed on here and offer them whatever assistance we can.  If they want a seperate discussion board we can install that for them, or just somewhere for them to blog.  We also want to expand on the business side of things and have a local business listing.

Can I change the colour scheme?

Yes, on the front page you'll find a panel with 5 colour schemes on there.  Choose the one you want and it will remember it the next time you come back.

Are my personal details safe?

The only information that is stored on here is your username, password, email address and IP address.  If you don't register or post then nothing is stored.  Your IP address is tracked if you post so that we can protect against spammers, it does however hide the last set of digits to protect your privacy.  We would encourage people to use a different password to what they use on other sites, but this is common practice.  We will never get in touch asking for your password or email address, if anybody ever asks you for these details claiming to be from this site please let us know.

How does the advertising work?

We charge an annual fee for a banner ad.  The banner ads appear randomly on each of the pages, while this means that the more advertisers we have the less likely people are going to see your ad, we are limiting the number of spaces.  From our research every visitor to the site is going to look at around 6 pages minimum, so if we had 25 spaces that would give you a 24% chance of each visitor seeing your ad.  We estimate most people will visit the site at least twice a week.

People can click on the banner ad and it will then open a new browser window to your Web site.  If you don't have a Web site we can design a single page with more details for a small fee or we can design a Web site at a discounted rate.
