Topic : Guitar Lessons

Hi Gareth I know I'm a bit behind with this piece of news  but I would be interested and possibly Chris my partner may be too.  We both have guitars and were having lessons in Gorseinon, but they stopped.  Let me know if this is still an option. Thanks Debs

Hi

My partner, Gareth, and I have recently moved to Llangennech.  Just wanted to say hi and introduce ourselves!  Gareth is a "local boy" but I'm still getting to know the area!

Topic : Simon and Jane Butler, both born 1682

Hi , you may get help from The carmarthenshire Family History Society or from the Carmarthenshire Archives at Carmarthen , Carmarthenshire . I will put a mention in the local newspaper to see if anyone responds.

Simon is well documented on the internet and one family tree has him married to Ann Matthew though I note that particular tree doesn't have much credence as it shows Simon and siblings born many years after parents death. I was interested to see that there are many documents online charting his success after landing in Philadelphia in 1712 with his cousin Simon Matthew ( which suggests if Simon Butler's wife was Ann Matthew , she was also a cousin and that Simon Butler's sister jane would also have married a cousin). Simon is mentioned in The History of Bucks County Pennsylvania and in the will of Simon Matthew, Simon Butler Jnr is left £5. There is also a story on a Thomas Butler which mentions "Simon Butler a man of proninence in Bucks Co and his brother Benjamin". Finally there is a mention of the Pennsylvania magazine of History and Biographies Vol 1X p50 which mentions Simon Butler as coming from Llangenych Wales.

Topic : Simon and Jane Butler, both born 1682

I live in Florida and am working on my genealogy, including my Welsh relatives. My 6-G Grandfather was named Simon Butler and he and his sister Jane Butler (married Simon Matthew, also from your area) were supposedly from Llagennech. Simon and Jane Butler were both born about 1682. I have a rather complete listing of descendants of both Simon and Jane, but am searching for their ancestors. I found your website and was wondering if you would have any suggestions for looking back further. I belong to ancestry.com and have looked on both the USA and UK versions without success. I understand that there was no parish established in Llangennech until 1723. Do you know if this would indicate that the family might be invoved with the parish in Llenelli, which was established in 1684? Genealogy has become a great hobby of mine and any assistance you could give me would be gratefully accepted. I have other Welsh ancestors, and may make a trip there if I can find exactly where my family is from.  I look forward to hearing from you, though I realise you must be rather busy.  Thanks for any assistance you may be able to offer.

This message was posted elsewhere on the site and has been moved here. If anybody can help then please reply to this thread, thanks.

Hi Tricia , it's unfortunate that you are researching the name Thomas ( as a Thomas who married a Thomas I know the difficulties well!). Have you located your family in the censuses? If you haven't got a subscription to Ancestry.Co.UK, the censuses can be seen online at local libraries ( Llangennech library being one ). Actual censuses for Llangennech can be seen at the main library in Vaughan St Llanelli. It will also be well worth your contacting the Archive Office in Carmarthen to see what records they hold on Llangennech. For a small fee you can see the 1911 census online. Do you know what church/chapel they would have been likely to attend? There is a church in Wales and both baptist and Independent chapels in the village. Good luck!

I've been asked to find out if anybody would be interested in having group guitar lessons in Llangennech.  If there is any interest then the cost of the lesson will be split between 3 or 4 people thus making it a lot more affordable.  If you interested then please reply to this thread or email me.

 Hi Tricia

Have you read the book History of Llangennech by Alwyn Charles?  I think it's out of print now but might be available in libraries, I know they have one in the Llangennech library.

If I can find any information I'll post it on here for you.

If one of your relatives is from Llanedi you might want to post on their site as well.

Regards

Gareth

I am researching my family hsitory and in particular, my grandfather William John Thomas. He was born in Llangennech in 1885 and lived in Brynllwyn Terrace. His parents were Thomas born in Llanedy in 1856 and Hannah (nee Lloyd) born in Pontardawe in 1860. He had an older sister Sarah and a younger brother David. There was also a younger sister Miriam who died when she was eight years old.

I am very keen to learn any facts about the history of Llangennech in the period 1880 - 1910, and anything at all about the family. I hope to visit Llangennech in the next couple of months and would be grateful for suggestions for resources when I get there.

I've been contacted by a Steven John who runs a couple of web sites asking for information on Llangennechs War Memorial.  He's looking for the names of villagers who died during the two World Wars and any history about them.

His two websites can be found here : Laugharne War Memorial and Pembrokeshire War Memorial

If anybody can help then please respond to this thread or send us an email.  Alternatively you could leave any information for me at the Community Centre.

Topic : Llangennech news column on the Star

Hi , I write the Llangennech news column on the Llanelli Star and I am trying to encourage villagers to let me know about their special birthdays and anniversaries and any events they are organising. Inclusion in the column is free ( but at the discretion of the Star) which many people don't realise. I send the items to the Star on Wednesday for inclusion the following week so please let me know in plenty of time. tel 821319 or e-mail cwnmawr@fsmail.net

I think I remember reading about the 4 black bag limit when the scheme started but agree it can be annoying when others add to your bags! My son has taken most of his bags to the amenities site himself as he has a large family but now you are not allowed to do that for some reason - bags can only be collected at the kerbside.

Topic : Refuse Collection

Did you all know that there is a limit of 4 black bags that will be collected every two weeks?  I found this out today because my rubbish hadn't been collected.

What's annoying is somebody had put around 7 or 8 bags outside my property, obviously they are too lazy to recycle since there were pizza boxes and a lot that should have been in the blue bags.  Therefore the binmen didn't collect my rubbish because they thought it was all together.

So my refuse hasn't been collected because of some idiot who obviously doesn't care about the environment or is too stupid to work out what goes where.
